About The Artist
Sylvia Tunis, a representational oil painter attended The National Academy of Design School of Fine Arts in New York City for almost two decades. Her work is comprised of still life, portrait and some landscape.
Sylvia Tunis studied with Harvey Dinnerstein, a figurative artist and educator. A draftsman and painter in the realistic tradition, his work has included genre paintings, contemporary narratives, complex figurative compositions, portraits, and intimate images of his family and friends.
Tunis also studied with Serge Hollerbach who was born in Pushkin, Russia in 1923 and died in NYC 2021. He studied in West Germany at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1946 to 1949; then he came to New York City to study at the Art Students League in 1951, and the American Art School of New York City in 1952. He taught at the National Academy School of Fine Arts in New York for many years and conducted workshops across the country, serving as juror, and lecturer.
Sam Adoque also influenced Tunis's work as her teacher mainly with landscapes in Central Park. His uniqueness is turning nature and people into beautiful timeless paintings that inspire future generations. Sam Adoquei is also an author.
Sylvia Tunis won awards and displayed her works at The Annual Art Show at Lincoln Center and at Citibank on Madison Avenue in the 1990's.
